GreenState AG, Switzerland: Automation of the Vertical Garden

CHALLENGES / PROBLEMS:

  • Establishing communication with air conditioning and ventilation equipment (HVAC), including fan coils, chillers, and air recuperators.
  • Enabling local and remote control of HVAC systems.
  • Managing lighting for optimal plant growth.
  • Facilitating data transfer to the cloud SCADA application.
  • Integrating the video surveillance system into the SCADA application.

SOLUTION:

  • Utilized the Modbus RTU protocol via RS485 communication for interaction with the HVAC system. The PLC Siemens S7-1200 serves as a Modbus RTU client, collecting data from the HVAC system and forwarding it to the INVIEW SCADA through the Internet.
  • Implemented local management of the HVAC system through the Siemens TP1200 Comfort operator panel.
  • Integrated the video surveillance system into the SCADA system using IP cameras and supporting equipment.

BENEFITS:

  • Achieved automated lighting and air conditioning management, with the user retaining responsibility for watering and planting/cutting plants.
  • Enabled remote control of lighting and HVAC systems.
  • Provided access to the SCADA system and video surveillance system worldwide through a web browser on a computer or mobile phone.
